Phoria's skill is in creating an atmosphere. The Brighton five-piece are making a name for themselves as purveyors of gorgeous, deeply atmospheric music that nods to the likes of Sigur Rós and SOHN. "Evolve" is the latest taste of their forthcoming debut full-length due 3 June via X Novo and it continues in the powerfully beautiful vein of its predecessors, as lead electronic maestro and composer Trewin Howard conducts a typically epic cut, complete with his hushed, affected falsetto and the spine-tingling bass work of Tim Douglas. The track is described as "a mash-up of ideas about evolution and the future of society" and this is a measure of the outfit's thoughtfulness and awareness in the creation of their uniquely moving work; stunning stuff. -G.O'B
